Hatzegopteryx is an extinct species of azhdarchid pterosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period in what is now Romania and other European countries. It is the heaviest animal to ever fly (tha
t we know of), and probably flew long distances between the small islands that made up what is now Europe, probably flying similarly to a modern-day albatross, with infrequent wingbeats to conserve as much energy as possible. They likely hunted on land, being able to use their long necks and beaks to ambush small sauropod and hadrosaur dinosaurs, swallowing them whole. It had an estimated wingspan of 12 metres (I'm not converting that into feet lol), which is about double the length of a particularly large great white shark. It was about 4.5 metres tall, more than double the height of the average adult human. Its closest relative, Quetzalcoatlus, was possibly the height of the average giraffe, but was much lighter than Hatzegopteryx. Contrary to popular belief, Hatzegopteryx was not a dinosaur, being a member of the order pterosauria, which, while being closely related to dinosaurs, were not dinosaurs themselves. All pterosaur species were extinct by the end of the cretaceous period, along with non-avian dinosaurs, 66 million years ago.
