god I love fractured fairytales so much. if you don't know what they are, it's when you take a fairytale and rewrite it by changing aspects of it. (so basically fanfiction for fairytales :)) this is l
iterally how I got started writing. fairytales are so perfect for this because there's so much folklore and magic and scenery already built-in but the characters are mostly blank slates that you can add personality to. they also mostly reflect standard traditional values (bravery, kindness, etc.) that you can add depth and nuance to by looking at them from different perspectives. also because fairytales are so ingrained in popular culture they're instantly recognizable to the reader, meaning they come in with expectations that you can subvert or fulfill. they're chock-full of symbolism, meaning you don't have to do any heavy lifting. I could talk about this all day but this description is already too long. can you tell I'm obsessed with them. also I wrote most of these in like middle school so if you were expecting any of the subtle exploration of theme that I was talking about earlier you're not gonna get any you're gonna get the weirdest alterations possible you're welcome.
