a classic van gogh. “cafe terrace at night” is a perfect subject for an impressionist painting, with its warmth, its contrast, its life. i grew up looking at this painting and it holds a special place in my heart, and, since it's a van gogh, doubtless in the hearts of millions of others. we're all sharing the night sitting on the side of a city street together.
